What is a Mentor

The Mentor is both a coach as a person deemed to have capabilities in the field in which the mentee operates and to counsel him on the best way to get results.

A mentor must be also a leader and have leadership skills.

Mentoring could be used to groom up-and-coming employees deemed to have the potential to move up into leadership roles. Here the employee (mentee) is paired with a senior level leader (or leaders) for a series of career-coaching interactions.

The word itself was inspired by the character of Mentor in Homer's Odyssey. Also Mentor was the form in which the goddess Athena takes on his appearance in order to guide young Telemachus in his time of difficulty.
